— BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — A $500,000 expansion, financed through private donations, will be open to the public next week when The Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum holds an open house.
An all-day open house is planned for Saturday, July 11, starting at 9:30 a.m. A ribbon-cutting is planned for 2 p.m.
Museum director Pat Richardson said two additions have added about 7,600 square feet of area to the building, bringing the total to about 23,000-square-feet.
“It’s a lot of museum for a little town” Richardson said.
A 1,600-square-foot solarium highlights the new museum entrance. Richardson said it will be used as a community space, meetings and traveling exhibits. An exhibition of photographs of Picher, Okla., will be featured soon, he said.
“Not a dime of public money has been used,” Richardson said. “Everything has been financed by donations.”
