Preparations began Friday for Joplin’s annual “Freedom Fest” celebration to be staged today at Landreth Park.

Activities start at 4 p.m.

Mayor Gary Shaw will welcome participants from the stage of the park’s amphitheater at 4:10 p.m. Sponsors also will make opening remarks.

After the announcements, the Joplin High School JROTC Honor Guard will present the colors and the band Seven Times Hotter will lead the singing of the national anthem.

Seven Times Hotter will perform at 4:25 p.m. The band Felonious Monk will perform at 5:25 p.m. The band Rukas will take the stage at 6:30 p.m. followed by performer Duke Mason and his band at 7:30 p.m.

The show’s headliner, singer-songwriter Lee Brice, will appear at 8:30 p.m.

The fireworks will begin at 9:45 p.m., choreographed to a music soundtrack that will be broadcast on KBZI rock station 107.1.

Through the evening, there will be bounces for the children to play on, along with games, contests and food for children and adults.

Those attending may bring chairs and blankets for seating, and coolers; however, alcohol, fireworks, barbecues and fires are not allowed.

A shuttle will be available from 7 to 11 p.m. to transport those who park at Memorial Hall. Parents must provide car seats for children 4 and younger.
