— TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The Kansas Lottery is continuing talks with the Woodlands for a deal that would put slot machines at the horse and dog track in Kansas City, Kan.
The Woodlands general manager, Jayme LaRocca, said Tuesday that the track’s owners still hope to reach a deal for up to 800 slots. That’s even though the Woodlands announced last week that the track would close because it hadn’t reached a deal with the state.
Lottery Executive Director Ed Van Petten says that although negotiations continue, the track can’t stay open because it’s losing money.
