A former Joplin resident was sentenced to 20 years in prison after forcibly raping a Missouri Southern State University student more than two years ago.
Michael C. Courtney Jr., 33, was found guilty by a Jasper County jury in late June. Jurors decided Courtney had raped the victim in her Webb City apartment on Jan. 13, 2005, rather than maintaining consensual sex with her as he claimed.
