The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s report on an accident Aug. 6 on the edge of Duquesne that took the life of a Bois D’Arc teenager has reached the Jasper County prosecutor.
Prosecutor Dean Dankelson on Monday acknowledged receiving the report and said again that he will seek recusal of his office from making any call on possible charges because the driver involved in the accident, Keith J. Adams, 20, is the son of Jasper County Commissioner Darieus Adams.
“They just sent the report, and out of an abundance of caution, I am asking for a special prosecutor,” Dankelson said.
The prosecutor declined to discuss any findings of the state patrol’s investigation or details of the report.
Kathleen L. Gilmartin, 18, died of injuries she suffered in the 1:30 a.m. accident in a field near East Seventh Street and Duquesne Road.
Gilmartin was a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Keith Adams, that overturned during “a high-speed maneuver” in the field, according to the state patrol’s initial report of the accident. She was thrown from the vehicle and died a little less than three hours later at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
