A new local company that will be the latest occupant of the Joseph Newman Innovation Center is looking for people who want to advance or start careers in information technology.
Shane Mayes, president and chief executive officer of Onshore Technology Services, introduced the venture on Wednesday at a press conference at the innovation center, which is operated by the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce.
Mayes said his company trains the unemployed and underemployed to become software programmers in an intensive, 15-week program. People interested in the training will be able to apply soon for the course, to be offered in conjunction with Crowder College Career Institute. The training program qualifies for federal financial aid to obtain the training. Students who graduate are then employed by Onshore.
Mayes first, though, wants to hire experienced information technologists to establish his company here and work with the students.
More information will be available in Thursday editions of the Globe.
