A Webb City man is facing drug charges after a traffic stop early Wednesday in Joplin.
Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department said an officer tried to stop a vehicle at 12:42 a.m. at 21st Street and Connecticut Avenue. The vehicle did not initially stop, and a male passenger attempted to flee at one point, but both the driver and passenger eventually were detained, Niess said.
The driver, Chad D. Willis, 44, was arrested on probable-cause charges of consumption of beer in public, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without insurance and improper display of license plates, Niess said. The passenger was arrested on some outstanding city warrants, he said.
Felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a chemical with intent to manufacture were added against Willis when a bag containing a chemical and a syringe containing methamphetamine reportedly were found on him after his arrest.
