Police probing three break-ins at local businesses

Break-ins over the weekend at three Joplin businesses remained under investigation Monday by police.

Officers responding to an alarm at 2:50 a.m. Sunday at the Game Xchange store, 102 N. Range Line Road, found a front window broken out, and two $350 game systems and two safes missing.

Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said a K-9 unit dog that was taken to the scene helped find the two safes in a cemetery behind the business. Both had been broken into, and an estimated $2,500 in cash had been stolen, Niess said.

A manager at Joplin Building Materials, 1021 E. 15th St., reported discovering evidence of a burglary Saturday afternoon at the business. Niess said an undetermined amount of money was taken from two vending machines in a break room.

No one could be found in the area when officers responded at 5:38 a.m. Friday to an alarm at May’s Drug, 3222 S. Hearnes Blvd. Niess said someone broke glass in the front door of the business and entered the pharmacy.

Niess said an undetermined amount of drugs was believed to have been stolen. The store is conducting an inventory to determine how many pharmaceuticals were taken, he said. Police probing three break-ins at local businesses
