A Commerce, Okla., woman was killed and a man was injured when they were hit by a car while walking on a county road near Miami in Ottawa County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The patrol said 50-year-old Frances Burt was killed and 62-year-old Ernest Burt was injured in the accident about 11:30 p.m. Monday.
Troopers said the Burts were walking in the westbound lane of traffic and Frances Burt was pushing a wheelchair when they were hit from behind by a car driven Angela June Smith, 26, of Miami. The driver of the car was not injured.
Ernest Burt was taken to Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami and then flown to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin. He was listed as being in stable condition, according to the state patrol.
n A Goodman woman suffered serious injuries and five other people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Ibex and Spruce roads, two miles south of Neosho in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
One of the drivers, Montana L. Harris, 22, of Goodman, was taken to Freeman Hospital West in Joplin with serious injuries, the patrol said. Also taken to Freeman Hospital West were four passengers in her car: Nathan Harris, age not available; Dillan Stephens, age not available; Kayleigh Stephens, 1; and Landon Stephens, 2, all of Seneca.
The other driver, Christina S. Arwood, 18, of Seneca, also was taken to Freeman Hospital West.
The patrol said Harris’ eastbound van collided with Arwood’s southbound car.
