11:33 a.m. Police recover weapon, money following robbery of Buffalo Wild Wings

Joplin Police officers say they recovered the gun and the money following a robbery early this morning at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Mark Hasseberg, general manager of Buffalo Wild Wings, said the suspect took the night’s deposit and money from cash drawers during the robbery around 2:17 a.m.

The gunman approached a bartender, Mike Waldmer, outside the business, showed him the gun, put it to Waldmer’s neck and forced him backed inside the store. The robber then rounded up all employees near an office at the back of the store, took the money from the office and fled out the back door.

“He got all the money that the servers had collected for the night,” Hasseberg said.

Cpl. Chuck Niess confirmed that the weapon recovered was a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun. At one point during negotiations — after the suspect holed up near Seventh Street and Geneva Avenue — the suspect threw the money out of the shed and onto the ground, where it remained until negotiations ended.

Niess also said Cezar, the police dog who was shot early this morning when police tried to arrest the suspect, is expected to recover but remains in guarded condition.
