11:03 a.m. New McCune-Brooks Hospital delivers first baby

An area hospital will have something more pleasant to remember on Sept. 11.

An employee at McCune-Brooks Hospital is the mother of the first baby to be born at the hospital’s new birthing center.

Mya Rose Wilcox was born at 4:24 a.m. today. Born about six weeks early, she weighed 4 pounds and 14 ounces and measured at 18 inches long. She was born to Aaron and Cynthia Wilcox.

Cynthia Wilcox was working a night shift as a nurse’s aide when she went into labor. According to a press release, the entire family is doing well, with no complications or health issues.

The hospital’s Spradling Family Birthing Center was opened on Sept. 2. It is part of a new hospital building that opened in January. Mya Rose is the first baby to be delivered by McCune Brooks in 22 years, said a spokesperson for the hospital.
