A Carl Junction man pleaded guilty Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin to a felony charge of assaulting his girlfriend in May 2007.
Andre Lamar Evans, 38, changed his plea to guilty on a charge of second-degree domestic assault in a plea agreement with the county prosecutor’s office. The agreement limits the prison time he might be required to serve to no more than four years.
Circuit Judge David Dally ordered a sentencing-assessment report and set Nov. 19 as the date for the defendant’s sentencing.
A probable-cause affidavit filed by Carl Junction police states that Evans struck his girlfriend, Kelli D. Evans, about her face and neck the night of May 6, 2007, and the following morning. A police officer responding to a 911 call hang-up from the defendant’s home at 121 Shimm Circle in Carl Junction found the victim sitting on the floor and bleeding from her mouth. She was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin with a black eye, cut lip, and bruises on the back of both hands and arms, and on her chest, the affidavit states.
