Unofficial reports indicate that three have died as a result of a crash on U.S. Interstate 44.
Pam Barlet, spokesperson for McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage, said that she knew of three fatalities and five injuries from the crash at mile marker 13.6. Two of the injured were airlifted to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, two others were taken by McCune Brooks Hospital ambulance to Freeman Health Center and one was taken to McCune Brooks.
Heather Goff, spokesperson for Freeman, said that the two patients admitted are in good condition.
An official number of injuries and fatalities is not yet known.
The westbound lane of I-44 reopened shortly before 9:30 a.m. All lanes were closed because of the accident, which involved two tractor trailers and several cars.
Preliminary reports indicated the spill of a hazardous substance. A spokesperson with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said that firefighters reported the substance had burned away, and was no longer a threat.
