Three face charges after Galena raid

COLUMBUS, Kan. — Three Galena residents are facing drug charges in Cherokee County District Court.

Jeffrey Charles, Elizabeth Duncan and Diana Pittman were charged in connection with incidents Oct. 14. The ages of the defendants weren’t available. Cherokee County Attorney John Bullard filed the charges this week.

Charles is charged with felony methamphetamine possession, felony trafficking of contraband into a correctional institution, misdemeanor marijuana possession, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

The trafficking charge alleges that Charles tried to smuggle the prescription painkiller hydrocodone into the Cherokee County Jail.

Duncan and Pittman are charged with felony meth possession, misdemeanor marijuana possession and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

The complaint lists Charles and Duncan as living at the same address, 1015 W. Vine St. in Galena. Pittman’s address is listed as 801 E. 11th St. in Galena.

Each is listed as a witness on the criminal complaints against the others.

Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves said officers had been conducting surveillance at the home of Charles and Duncan, and that resulted in probable cause to obtain a search warrant and arrest warrants.

Charles and Duncan remained in the Cherokee County Jail on Thursday, with bonds set at $25,000. Pittman was released after posting $25,000 bond.
