She went on to help found the national quarterly magazine CURE, which stands for Cancer, Updates, Research and Education. The success of that publication lead to HOPE, a new magazine that premiered earlier this year. LaTour said HOPE is targeted at women who have survived breast cancer and are learning what the disease has meant in their lives.
“I’ve been really lucky to have been able to turn my life’s mission into my life’s vocation,” she said. The presentation she gave Saturday evening is one that she has given to women from coast to coast, but it’s developed into a program that she says is not “your typical lecture.” “It’s become a combination of stand-up (comedy) and information,” LaTour said. “Studies have shown that laughter is good for us. It’s a workout ... a way to kick the body into high gear. “I hope that it will help women find affirmation.” Magazine The Fall 2007 edition of CURE magazine covers such topics as the safety of approved breast-cancer drugs, diagnosing and treating sarcoma and the role of hormone replacement therapy.
