Oronogo police say a child reported escaping from an abductor Wednesday morning as the child walked home from a school bus stop after missing the school bus.
A press release issued by the Oronogo Police Department states that a child was picked up by an unidentified man about 30 to 40 years old driving a silver or gray 1990s model Chevrolet or Dodge pickup truck with peeling paint.
Police say the child jumped out of the truck at Missouri Highway 43 and Ivy Road and ran home.
The release does not give the age of the child, the location of the abduction or other details.
Police Chief Jeff Fries said the child is 8 or 9 years old and the abduction took place inside the city limits of Oronogo, though he would not give the specific location where the abduction allegedly took place.
The chief said it was not a case of parental or family abduction.
Fries said he would not give out any more information because the case was still being actively investigated. “The Police Department is currently working on leads,” he said, adding that he would release more information to the public as he felt he could.
The press release stated that police are asking any member of the public with information to call the department at 417-673-1916.
