Published November 01, 2007 12:27 am -  Group tells police of three burglaries at remodeling siteBAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — The Neutral Lands Cherokee, a non-federalized American Indian group, has reported three recent burglaries at its offices and thrift store at 617 Ottawa Ave.
Police chief David Edmondson said the break-ins took place Oct. 21, 22 and 28. Ray Golden, president of the group, said about $5,000 worth of equipment and tools belonging to a contractor working on a remodeling project at the building were taken. Edmondson said investigators have interviewed people and collected evidence in connection with the burglaries. Baxter Springs police also are investigating the theft of construction equipment from West 19th Street. A track hoe that was stolen had a value of $32,000. The police report listed B&W Construction as the victim. Police also are investigating a recent burglary at 512 E. Eighth St. Records, compact discs, a bow and miscellaneous items with a value of $1,000 were taken in the break-in. The police report listed Dwight Hughes as the victim.
