A 25-year-old woman reported to the Joplin Police Department that she was the victim of an apparent robbery attempt Thursday afternoon outside her home on West Sixth Street.
Amy L. Bieker, 908 W. Sixth St., told police that she was getting into her car shortly after 3 p.m. when a male stranger came up from behind her, grabbed her and stuck something in her back that felt like a gun. Bieker told police that the man slapped her when she struggled with him, and that she threw her car keys in the grass to keep him from taking them.
Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Police Department said the assailant or would-be robber then reportedly ran to a red sport-utility vehicle and left the area. The man was described as about 6 feet tall with a medium build, he said.
Niess said the matter remained under investigation on Friday, with no arrest having been made.
