Charges sought in wounding of Tahlequah man

JAY, Okla. — Charges were being sought Wednesday against a suspect who is believed to have shot and wounded another man at a work site in southern Delaware County.

Capt. Ron Teel of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department said deputies and emergency medical workers who were called to the Leach-Kenwood area at 11 a.m. Tuesday found Dustin Trimble, 20, of Tahlequah, with a shotgun wound or wounds to his upper torso.

Trimble was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Fayetteville, Ark., where he was reported to be in stable condition Wednesday in an intensive care unit. Teel said investigators were uncertain how many times Trimble had been shot.

Teel said an all-points bulletin was issued to area law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for a pickup truck driven by a 27-year-old business associate of Trimble’s who is suspected of having shot him over apparent “business differences.” Teel declined to discuss what type of business the two men were engaged in, but he described it as a legal business venture.

He said the suspect was found about an hour later in Cherokee County, Okla., and taken into custody. A shotgun and a police radio found near his truck were seized, Teel said.

The Tahlequah man posted a $25,000 probable-cause bond and was released.

Teel said the Delaware County district attorney’s office had yet to file a charge when the suspect posted bond. He said investigators were seeking charges of shooting with intent to kill and possession of a police radio in the commission of a felony.
