A report of a prowler at 2:44 a.m. Wednesday in the 2200 block of South Grand Avenue led to the arrest of a 35-year-old woman on a felony drug charge.
An officer responding to the call spotted a woman in an alley who tried to run when she saw the police car, said Cpl. Chuck Niess of the Joplin Police Department. The officer caught and detained the woman, and allegedly found a cellophane wrapper containing some Xanax pills in her possession. Niess said a bag containing methamphetamine allegedly was found on the woman as she was being booked at the Joplin City Jail.
Shona L. Pliler, 1221 Outer Road, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
In an unrelated drug arrest, an officer stopped a driver he recognized as being wanted on a bad-check felony warrant at 1:50 a.m. at F Street and Schifferdecker Avenue.
Niess said the officer’s dog alerted on the car after the arrest of Mark C. McDaniel, 49, 3421 W. Fountain Road, and some syringes, straws and vials, and bags with alleged methamphetamine residue were found on the floor of the vehicle. McDaniel was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a paraphernalia, in addition to the warrant being served on him.
