(AP) — An attraction that opens Friday at Kansas City’s Union Station will put people in the dark -- literally.
“Dialog in the Dark” is a one-hour tour that places sighted people into the world of the blind. Groups are led through a series of pitch-black galleries with the help of white canes, and a guide who is legally blind. The Kansas City Star reported that in an exhibit preview this week, participants realized that although they were without vision, they could make better use of other senses. Hearing and touch became vital, especially touch, while smell and taste also came into play. Union Station officials hope for 50,000 to 60,000 visitors, conceding that the exhibit is tough to promote without images to use on TV and billboards.
