CARTHAGE, Mo. — Two people are facing charges in connection with a burglary Sunday morning at a home on Carthage’s north side.
Detective Steve Waldo of the Carthage Police Department said officers were called about 5:30 a.m. when occupants of the home reported that two intruders apparently gained entry through an unlocked door.
“They woke up, and the suspects were in the room with them,” Waldo said.
He said the occupants chased the burglars out of the house. The two, who got away with some medication and other property, were known to the occupants, and police found them Tuesday night and arrested them.
Charged with first-degree burglary were Bobby A. Gonzalez, 26, and Maria L. Whitaker, 26, both of Carthage. Whitaker also was charged with felony stealing in connection with the theft of a cell phone and other items from another home on the west side of town earlier the same morning, Waldo said.
Gonzalez and Whitaker remained in custody Wednesday at the Jasper County Jail, with their bonds set at $5,000 each.
