JAY, Okla. — A 51-year-old rural Delaware County man appeared Monday before a district court judge on three counts of shooting with intent to kill.

Two of those counts involve the wounding of a teenager and a deputy sheriff.

William Michael Demoss remained in custody Monday in lieu of $300,000 bond.

His mother, Virginia Rose Logan, 77, posted $12,500 bond and was released from custody on charges of harboring a fugitive and obstructing an officer’s duty, said sheriff’s Capt. Ron Teel.

“Based on the way things transpired, she didn’t assist us,” he said.

Deputy Rick Pike was released Monday from St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa after he was treated for a gunshot to the hip.

Teel said he was unsure when Pike would return to work.

Authorities allege that about 5:30 p.m. Friday, a 17-year-old boy and a 9-year-old boy were walking in front of Logan’s house, and Demoss fired at them with a .22-caliber rifle.

The 17-year-old boy, who was struck in the hand and hip, was treated at a nearby hospital and released, Teel said.

No motive has been found for the shooting, he said.

Deputies responded to the Logan home armed with a search warrant for guns.

When deputies arrived at Logan’s house, Teel said, they determined that Demoss had an outstanding warrant from 2004 alleging assault and battery. Teel said he had no information about the 2004 case.

The Logan house, he said, is about 15 miles from Jay in a remote area.
