NEOSHO, Mo. — A Neosho man has been charged with one count of burglary after allegedly breaking into a home while nude.

Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland said officers were dispatched about 3:20 a.m. Monday to a home on West Highway 86, east of Racine, after receiving reports of a naked man armed with a gun trying to break inside.

Responding officers said on arrival they found 27-year-old Travis R. Jones, of Neosho, naked but unarmed save for a piece of piping that the callers took to be firearm in the darkness. Jones was accompanied by a dog, but had no vehicle.

Copeland said Jones allegedly broke into the home and then destroyed some of the property.

The home occupants, awakened by a thunderstorm, found Jones and confronted him. Jones left the house, and allegedly was trying to re-enter the home when county authorities arrived.

“He made a comment to one of the officers that he was trying to get out of the rain,” Copeland said as to motive.

Jones is charged with first-degree burglary, a class B felony, in connection with the incident.
