One of the largest manufacturing companies in the region officially has a new home.

Ohio-based OM Group completed its $172 million acquisition of EaglePicher Technologies, it was announced today. No changes are planned either to the work force or the operations of EaglePicher, officials with both companies have previously said.

EaglePicher Technologies has about 850 employees, 750 of whom work in plants in Joplin, Seneca, Miami, Okla., and Pittsburg, Kan. The others are located in cities such as Dallas and Vancouver, British Columbia.

“EaglePicher becomes the cornerstone of OM Group's portable power business, one of our primary growth platforms,” Joseph Scaminace, chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “It adds broad research and development and technical expertise in battery chemistries and technologies, which will be critical to our growth in battery and battery materials applications."

EaglePicher will be a wholly owned subsidiary of OM Group and be led by its current management team.

OM Group, a publicly traded company based in Cleveland, will keep the EaglePicher Technologies name, which has been part of the Joplin area for more than a century.
