GALENA, Kan. —
A documentary crew with Pixar Animation Studios on Sunday shot footage at Four Women on the Route in preparation for the summer release of “Cars 2.”
The footage may be used as part of the DVD extras when the movie is released on DVD, but Pixar crew member Erica Milsom would only say the crew was doing research. She said it was great to get out of the office and see more of America.
“Galena seems great,” she said.
There was a large turnout at the business, which sells food and Route 66 souvenirs. Melba Rigg, one of the owners, held court with her strong voice and exuberant personality. She later was an interview subject for the documentary crew.
Emily Priddy, who drove from Tulsa, Okla., with her husband, Ron Warnick, in a Honda Fit with a psychedelic paint job, said people from Europe and Japan who travel on Route 66 understand it better than most Americans.
“This is the most American thing there is,” Priddy said of the historic road.
“Cars 2, ” to be released June 24, won’t be set on Route 66, but it instead has an overseas setting.
