JOPLIN, Mo. —
A silent auction and bazaar benefiting Joplin’s Healing the Family Center, a child abuse treatment and prevention center, will raise money to provide services for area children and adults.
The community is invited to attend “Bargain Hunter’s Bazaar and Silent Auction” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Mount Hope Church of Christ, 2830 Mount Hope Road in Webb City. The event will be held in the church’s Family Life Center. Auction items include donations from Six Flags, Silver Dollar City, Showboat Branson Belle, the Joplin Family Y, local restaurants, movie tickets, a limousine ride and much more.
Auction bidding ends that day at 3 p.m.
Created as a way to raise money and support for the Healing the Family Center, which is located at 508 E. 32nd St., in Joplin, the event will also feature booths with additional items for sale and a visit by child-friendly “NAO,” an interactive robot that moves and can tell stories. The Mount Hope Church of Christ youth group is sponsoring a concession stand for the event.

Wally Kennedy: Ye Olde King Pizza to open by September
Let’s start at the beginning. Earlier this year, Brian and Tracy Myers, of Joplin, signed a licensing agreement to bring a Ye Olde King Pizza to Joplin. This style of pizza was the forerunner for what eventually would become Joplin’s signature pizza restaurant, Pizza by Stout. That restaurant at 2101 S. Range Line Road was destroyed by the May 2011 tornado.

Members of the 1st Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry regiment had been in Jasper County in large numbers on previous foraging missions.
