$15 million Freeman project will add 58 rooms, 80 to 100 jobs

JOPLIN, Mo. — Creating 58 patient rooms on the top two floors of the Gary and Donna Hall Tower at Freeman Hospital West also will add 80 to 100 jobs to the hopital’s payroll.

Work on the fifth floor is scheduled to be complete by April 2012, said Jeffrey Carrier, chief nursing officer at Freeman. The rooms on the sixth floor are schedule to be ready for patients in July 2012..

The construction cost of the project is $10 million, while equipment costs will total $4 million to $5 million.

The hospital’s daily patient census has increased by 15 percent to 25 percent since the May 22 tornado struck St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

“This is our response to that growing demand,” Carrier said.
