JOPLIN, Mo. —
Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday announced loans from the Missouri Small Business Loan Program to two Joplin businesses affected by the May 22 tornado.
Nixon, during a stop in Joplin, announced loans of $50,000 each had been approved for Wireless Connections and Powersports of Joplin.
Wireless Connections, which currently employs 10 workers, moved to a new location after its original building was destroyed. The business provides commercial satellite TV systems and custom home electronic systems. Powersports of Joplin sells and services motorcycles, ATVS, scooters and power equipment. The four-year-old business employs 16 local workers, but suffered decreased sales after the tornado.
Nixon on June 24 announced the loan program would be broadened to include more applicants, including businesses economically or physically impacted by the Joplin tornado. Modifications included making retail and service businesses eligible and providing additional repayment options.
