From staff reports

— The city of Murray, Ky., was named the “friendliest city” in the Rand McNally/USA Today “Best of the Road” competition.

Winning cities of the categories in the competition are being announced now at the Destination Marketing Association International convention in Seattle, Wash.

Joplin was one of six finalists for the title of the friendliest small city in the country. Bob Schatz and Jennifer Jordon, nicknamed the Rogue Riders, were the judges for the category who visited all six finalists on a route that ended up at the Seattle convention.

Representatives of the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau are attending the convention.
