Carl Junction councilman Ed Reeves resigns

City solicits applicants interested in position

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Carl Junction City Councilman Ed Reeves announced his resignation Tuesday in a letter submitted to city administrators.

The resignation was accepted by the City Council Tuesday night during its regularly scheduled meeting.

Reeves, who represented Ward 2, beat candidate Walter Hayes by a vote of 59 to 48 in April to earn a seat vacated by Carl Skaggs. Reeves served no previous terms on the council.

No reason was given in Reeve’s written resignation, nor was he in attendance at the council meeting.

“The letter just said, ‘Due to circumstances beyond his control’,” he was resigning, City Administrator Steve Lawver explained Wednesday morning.

Reeves could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.

To fill the seat, Lawver said the city will place an ad in the newspaper inviting residents of Ward 2 — which runs from from South Pennell Street to Center Creek — to submit letters of interest.

Mayor Mike Moss said he also will call a special city council meeting, at a date yet to be determined, during which the council will select a person from the field of applicants to serve until the election in April 2013.

Anyone interested in filling the vacant Ward 2 Council Seat in Carl Junction can hand-deliver or mail a letter expressing their interest to City Clerk Maribeth Matney at City Hall, 303 N. Main St., Carl Junction, MO 64834.
