Carthage to test new sirens

CARTHAGE, Mo. — New storm sirens installed in the city of Carthage will get their first test today, if the weather continues to clear.

The test is set for 1 p.m. and Carthage Mayor Mike Harris push the “red button” to activate the test to sound the new sirens.

The new sirens replace a system that includes some equipment that has been in use for more than 50 years. Funding for the new systems comes from a one-fourth cent fire safety tax passed by Carthage voters in November.
