Supercell threat exists for area tonight

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Supercell thunderstorms are expected to develop later today along a dry line from eastern Kansas into Northeast Oklahoma, according to the National Weather Service station in Springfield.

“From mid- to late evening along the advancing dry line, hail up to the size of baseballs will be possible this evening, especially west of a Schell City (Vernon County) to Cassville (Barry County) line. Damaging straight-line winds over 60 mph will also be possible. An elevated threat for tornadoes will also exist across western Missouri and Southeat Kansas, especially after dark as wind shear increases.”

Heavy rainfall also will be a possibility and could lead to localized flash flooding where multiple thunderstorms may track over the same area this evening.
