WEBB CITY, Mo. —
Webb City officials have made the decision to use the Jasper County Collector as the city’s primary means of tax collection, following in the wake of the retirement of long time Webb City Collector Cathy Spencer.
Currently, the city collects a property tax, a library tax and a parks tax; all three of these taxes will now be collected by the county.
Mayor John Biggs said the move will pay four percent of the city’s collected total to Jasper County — roughly $25,000 annually — but the city will make up for that expense by not filling Spencer’s position.
“The collector was making roughly $62,000 with benefits a year,” Biggs said. “Every other city except for Carl Junction uses the county to collect local taxes and this gives us an opportunity to save money as a city.”
