Bear spotted in Benton County this week may be the same one in Lamar last month

— Officials with the Missouri Department of Conservation think a black bear sighted in Benton County on Tuesday may be the same young male that wandered through Lamar on May 28.

Since May 28, a bear has been sighted in Vernon County and on June 12 in Bates County.

Bill Graham, a spokesman for the conservation department, said the bear doesn’t have a radio collar. He said because people stop seeing a bear in one location and a bear is later seen in a different location, it could be the same bear.

“There’s no way for us to no for sure,” Graham said.
