JOPLIN, Mo. —
A holiday open house and “Tree of Remembrance” for pets will be held Saturday by the Joplin Humane Society at the Animal Adoption and Resource Center, 140 Emporer Lane.
There will be adoption specials and refreshments for visitors from noon to 5 p.m.
Pet owners can recognize their animal friends, both living and those who have died, at the “Tree of Remembrance” ceremony from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday in the lobby of the adoption center. Animals can be represented by a donation of $5 per light on the tree.
“It does help honor and memorialize pets that are living and are lost,” said Connie Andrews, director of the center. “They become such a part of our families, we miss them when they are gone.”
The donation provides for all the names of pets to be listed on the organization’s website from now on, she said.
The center’s adoption hours start at 1 p.m. each day except Saturday, when opening is at 10 a.m. The center is closed on Monday.
