JOPLIN, Mo. —
Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien can take a trip to Middle Earth soon when the three-part Lord of the Rings film series is shown at Missouri Southern State University.
The 2001 movie hit Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings will be shown at Missouri Southern on Thursday, April 4. The movie will be shown at 2 p.m. in Phelps Theater on the bottom floor of the Billingsly Student Center. It will be shown again at 8 p.m. on the Oval, weather permitting, or in Phelps Theater, if not.
Lord of the Rings, Fellowship of the Rings tells the story of a meek hobbit of The Shire and eight companions who set out on a journey to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring and the dark lord Sauron.
No admission is charged. Free popcorn will be provided and the public is invited.
The movie will be followed by 2002’s The Two Towers on Friday, April 12 and 2003’s The Return of the King on Friday, April 18. Also, The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey, will be shown on Thursday, May 2.
The films are part of the “Movies Through the Decades” series in celebration of MSSU’s 75th anniversary.
