Pittsburg seeking applicants for board posts

The city of Pittsburg is accepting letters of interest to fill several vacancies that will open up soon on four boards and commissions.

The Airport Advisory Board, which has seven members, each of whom serve a three-year term, meets on an as-needed basis at City Hall.

Four members are required to be airport users, while the other three must be nonusers. The board’s functions include reviewing all policies affecting airport operation, setting fees and determining projects.

The Board of Zoning Appeals, which has five members, each of whom serve a three-year term, meets at 5 p.m. on the first Monday of each month.

Members are required to be residents of the city of Pittsburg. The board reviews requests for variances in zoning ordinances such as building setback requirements and building sizes.

The Citizens Advisory Board, which has seven members, each of whom serve a three-year term, meets at least every other month as necessary. All members must be residents of the city of Pittsburg. The board considers all applications for housing assistance, including rental rehabilitation, and owner-occupied housing. The board also reviews grant applications for funding assistance for the city.

The Planning & Zoning Commission, which has nine members, each of whom serves three years, meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Monday of each month.

Seven members must live in the city limits, while two members may live outside the city limits, but within a three-mile radius of the city. Members of the commission review and adopt, as well as update, the comprehensive plan for the city, establish zoning districts and allowable uses, review zoning regulations within the city and review requests for special permits or conditional uses within certain zoning districts. The commission also reviews site plans for planned areas.

How to apply

Those interested in being considered for a position on any of the boards or commissions should submit a letter of interest and biography to Tammy Nagel, city clerk, City of Pittsburg, 201 W. Fourth St., Pittsburg, KS 66762 or by email at tammyn@pittks.org.
