ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) — Missouri lawmakers are considering a statewide measure banning so-called “fake pot,” but St. Charles County may not wait for the state to act.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that St. Charles County Councilman Joe Brazil is behind the effort. He is sponsoring a bill to make it a misdemeanor to possess or sell any of the herb mixtures with chemicals that mimic the effects of marijuana such as K2, Genie and Zohai.

The bill was expected to have a first reading Monday night, and Brazil says it could become law on March 29.

Sheriff Tom Neer requested the bill, and Brazil says he has heard from parents and teachers who say students are using fake marijuana.
