Joplin man sent to prison for child molestation

JOPLIN, Mo. — A Joplin man pleaded guilty today in Jasper County Circuit Court to molestation of an 8-year-old girl in 2010 and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Daniel L. Menteer, 30, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of first-degree child molestation in a plea deal with the Jasper County prosecutor’s office. The plea limited the prison time he might receive at eight years.

Menteer had been facing 10 to 30 years or up to life in prison on counts of first-degree statutory rape and first-degree statutory sodomy. The statutory rape count was amended to child molestation and the statutory sodomy charge was dropped, along with another count of failure to register as a sex offender, under terms of the deal.
