MIAMI, Okla. —
Oklahoma authorities have released the name of a baby boy who died in a house fire Sunday afternoon near Peoria.
The Peoria, Miami, Ottawa and Ottawa Tribal fire departments responded to the 3:30 p.m. fire. Firefighters discovered the 10-month-old child in a bassinet at the opposite end of the home from the kitchen where the fire orginated, according to JoAnne Sellars, assistant state fire marshal.
Sellars said she was told the child was pronounced dead at the scene, although a news release from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department reported that he was transported to Baptist Integris Regional Health Center in Miami.
The Sheriff’s Department has identified the deceased child as Isaac Shores. His body has been sent to the state medical examiner’s office in Tulsa.
Sellars said while the cause of the fire remains under investigation, there was nothing suspicious about it at this time. She said the care of the child at the time of the fire remains under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office and the Sheriff’s Department.
