SPRINGFIELD, Mo. —
A federal grand jury indicted a Joplin woman Wednesday in connection with a robbery attempt at a bank’s drive-through window that a teller foiled by dropping to the floor and crawling away.
Anna Lee Turner, 50, was charged with attempted robbery on Oct. 5 of the U.S. Bank at 2801 E. 32nd St. in an indictment handed up in U.S. District Court in Springfield. She initially was charged with the offense in a federal criminal complaint filed Oct. 11.
Turner is accused of walking up to the drive-through window of the bank and placing a plastic bag and a note in the teller’s tray. The note demanded $100 bills, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in federal court.
After reading the note, the teller dropped to the floor, alerted other bank employees and crawled away, the affidavit states. Another employee triggered the bank’s alarm system as the would-be robber pounded on the glass of a drive-through window in an effort to get the retreating teller to cooperate with her demands.
Turner was arrested by Joplin police seconds later as she walked away from the bank without any money.
