CWEP receives top honor from national power group

CARTHAGE, Mo. — The Carthage Water and Electric Plant has received the top award for reliable electrical service from the American Public Power Association.

The city-owned utility was named a Diamond Level Reliable Public Power Provider at the APPA’s Engineering and Technical Conference in Oklahoma City.

CWEP is one of only 29 public power utilities, among 2,000 APPA members nationwide, to the receive the designation, which is the highest honor awarded by the association. Among about 100 public utilities in Missouri, it is the only one in the state to ever achieve the honor.

“It’’s a real honor, especially when you think about some of the public utilities we’re competing against, like Springfield, Independence and Columbia in Missouri, and Los Angeles, Memphis and San Antonio, nationwide.” said Chuck Bryant, electric superintendent.
