Felony drug charges have been filed against several people arrested this week in Joplin Police Department cases.
Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said officers were attempting to serve an outstanding warrant on a man who was spotted Tuesday night at Northpark Mall and wound up arresting two men on fresh drug charges.
Niess said officers reportedly found three bags of methamphetamine on Jimmie D. Reedy, 35, 1410 Kimberlee Lane, when they arrested him on four felony warrants and a Carthage city warrant. Niess said the officers also arrested Donald B. Loomis, 27, 912 W. First St., after they reportedly saw him stuffing something in a chair as they approached the two men in the mall. He said a tin container with a vehicle key and a straw bearing meth residue was recovered from the chair after Loomis was arrested on some Jasper County warrants.
Reedy was charged with two new felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, and Loomis was charged with a single count. Niess said the key proved to be for a Dodge Charger in the mall parking lot that checked out as stolen from a dealership in Fort Scott, Kan. Loomis had yet to be charged by Wednesday in any alleged crime with regard to the vehicle.
Two people were arrested when officers checked out a report of people asleep late Monday night in a vehicle at the Sonic restaurant at 310 E. 32nd St.
Niess said the driver, Ronnie P. Christy, 32, of Monett, was arrested on Barry County warrants in a parole violation, and also was charged with misdemeanor trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. His passenger, Nicole D. Hernandez-Piedra, 34, of Carthage, was arrested on the same misdemeanor charges, and a bag of methamphetamine reportedly was found on her. She later was charged with three felony counts of possession, according to Newton County Circuit Court records.
A traffic stop about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday at East Central Street and Brownell Avenue led to the arrest of Crystal D. Stephens, 45, of Kansas City, on a charge of driving with a suspended license, improper display of plates and a Jasper County traffic warrant. The alleged discovery of 12 small bags of marijuana containing more than 35 grams total inside her vehicle resulted in a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver.
Timothy A. Dearing, 43, 3317 Norman Drive, was arrested about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday and accused of driving with a suspended license at 33rd Street and Norman Drive. A search of his vehicle reportedly turned up a cigarette pack containing a bag of meth, and he was charged with felony possession. Charges filed against several in drug cases
