Joplin City Councilman Phil Stinnett has announced that he is withdrawing from the current council race and will not serve another term.

Stinnett is one of two incumbents who had sought three general seats on the April 6 ballot.

In an e-mail statement issued to the Globe this morning, Stinnett wrote:

“Due to recent personal health issues, I have decided not to actively pursue re-electionto the Joplin City Council. Unfortunately these health issues occurred after my name was already on the ballot. It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Joplin for thepast twelve years but now I feel I need to concentrate on regaining my health.”

The three general seats that are open in the race are those of Stinnett, Mayor Pro Tem Mike Woolston who is seeking re-election, and Jim West, who has filed as a candidate for the legislature.

Other candidates in the race are Jack Golden, Kelly Maddy, Trisha Raney and Kevin York.
