A Joplin man has been charged with setting a fire that badly damaged a house his estranged wife was renting.

Timothy A. Elsey, 40, was arrested by police Wednesday and charged today with second-degree arson and second-degree burglary in connection with a house fire Monday afternoon at 719 S. Highland Ave.

Joplin police have said that Adrienne Elsey left her home just minutes before a fire erupted inside the residence. Investigators found evidence that someone gained entry to the home by breaking a window and then used an accelerant to set the fire.

Timothy Elsey remained in custody Thursday afternoon, with his bond set at $25,000.
