Recent vehicle stops by Joplin police have led to felony drug charges against two people.
James W. Habersat, 23, of Carterville, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance after a traffic stop Friday near Central Street and Brownell Avenue. Police Cpl. Chuck Niess said Habersat was halted in a traffic stop, and a search reportedly turned up a glass pipe in one of his socks and three bags of methamphetamine in his wallet.
Another officer’s traffic stop of a vehicle early Saturday near 17th Street and Missouri Avenue led to the arrest of the driver on seven city warrants. Niess said the officer reportedly found a crack pipe and a bag of cocaine in the possession of Tommie M. Thompson, 23, 619 S. High Ave.
In addition to felony possession, Thompson was charged with resisting arrest for allegedly trying to run from the officer after he had been handcuffed.
