CARTHAGE, Mo. —
More than 20 vehicles formerly used by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department were declared surplus property by the Jasper County Commission Tuesday.
The action will allow the vehicles to be sold, but Sheriff Randee Kaiser said the vehicles probably won’t be of interest to other law enforcement agencies.
“A good chunk of them are high mileage or have been wrecked and totaled. Some of them have been used for parts to repair other vehicles,” he said. “I think they will be of interest to people who like to restore police vehicles. Otherwise, they’ll probably go to salvage yards.”
Commissioners also announced they will seek bids on a project to demolish two vacant properties on recently-purchased land next to the county jail. The county is buying the land for a jail expansion sometime in the future. Commissioners will close on the property on Feb. 22, according to John Bartosh, presiding commissioner.
