Group to consider two Jasper County nominations for National Register of Historic Places

The Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will consider a Joplin building, and a rural cemetery and school in Jasper County in its nominations to the National Register of Historic Places, the nation’s honor roll of historic properties.

The council will hold its quarterly meeting May 18 in Jefferson City.

Nominations for 20 properties are scheduled to be considered for listing on the National Register. Properties on the agenda include historic residential and commercial historic districts, schools and hospitals, and sites related to historic western emigration trails.

The nominated properties in Jasper County are the Joplin Furniture Company Building, 702-708 S. Main St., Joplin, and Cave Spring School and Cemetery, 4323 County Road 4, Sarcoxie.

The Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation is a 12-member group of historians, architects, archaeologists and citizens with an interest in historic preservation.

Approved nominations are forwarded to the Keeper of the National Register in Washington, D.C., for final approval.
