Joplin Christmas parade begins at 6 p.m. today

JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin’s 42nd annual Christmas parade kicks off at 6 p.m. today.

The parade will travel north on Main Street, starting at 20th Street and ending at First Street.

The theme this year is “Caroling Through Joplin.” The parade is sponsored by the Joplin Jaycees.

The Jaycees limited the number of entries for this year to 150. Unlike previous years, no late entries will be allowed to join this year’s parade.

The Joplin Police Department also has announced that a temporary no parking rule will be put in effect for both sides of Main Street from First Street to 26th Street today. The department said in a statement Monday that signs will be posted along the route this morning and enforcement will start in the afternoon.

Weather forecasts for this year’s parade put the temperature in the upper 40s near the parade’s start time, with no rain expected, according to www.weather.com, the Website of The Weather Channel.
